Located in the Fens I recently had an opportunity to visit a derelict house that has just been purchased with a view to being renovated for resale on the open market.  The property was built in the late 18th century and at one time formed part of farm buildings quite close to the River Nene.  Over the years it had undergone many additions and changes to its original state and had not been occupied since the mid 1990’s.

With security boards removed and light flooding in for the first time in a really long time it was like entering a time capsule where decay was beginning  to take hold  and personal items owned by the last occupant remained untouched. All in all a real opportunity to take some “urban decay” images.

Using my tripod with my trusty Canon 5D Mk3 attached I took a number of long exposure images using only the available light filtering through the dingy windows.  I found that using a 16mm-35mm wide angle lens gave the best view of the rooms and taking a series of 1 and 2 top bracketed shots gave me greater latitude when post processing the images.  I’m looking forward to returning to the property to see the renovations as they progress.
